Dr. Barbara Blok attended the University of Michigan Medical School and completed her Emergency Medicine training at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. She served as the Assistant Chief of the Service in the Johns Hopkins Department of Emergency Medicine and completed the ACEP/EMF Teaching Fellowship at before joining the Hopkins faculty full time. Academic interests include leadership, development of educational resources, teaching and wilderness medicine.

Dr. Blok is currently an Associate Professor and the former director/course developer for the Wilderness Medicine medical student electives at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She also serves as an Associate Program Director for the Denver Health Residency in Emergency Medicine. She has been instrumental in the growth of Wilderness Medicine resident educational opportunities and the development of the Wilderness Medicine Fellowship at Denver Health/University of Colorado. She joined the University of Colorado faculty in 2005, after serving as the Associate Residency Program Director at the Johns Hopkins Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Blok is an Editor for the very successful book First Aid for the Emergency Medicine Boards.

Her outside interests include outdoor “adventures” including mountain biking from Boulder to Tabernash over the Continental Divide with friends (or solo!), long trail runs, nighttime nordic skiing.
