Welcome to Basic Wilderness First Aid! This is an online course where you will learn backcountry first aid.
In order to earn a certificate of completion for this class you will need to go through 14 modules and complete the quizzes. You will also need to complete and submit for review one case study from the course. We also encourage you to take the optional final exam at the end.
When you go through each module you will see first a PowerPoint (PPT) with goals and objectives. Please review the goals and objectives to know what we expect you to know and be able to do at the end of the class. These will be followed by the first of two or three case studies. Please read that initial case study to put the learning into context. You may be stumped as to what to do the first time you see it; that is fine. Go back to it when you finish the module and read it with much more knowledge and confidence! At the end you will find one or two other case studies you are encouraged to test yourself against. There will be an example case study at the beginning of the course to give you an idea of how to complete a case study.
We expect that you will spend approximately an hour on each module, for a total of about 14 hours.
When you register for the course, you will receive a registration confirmation email that includes how to access the course. You will need to click the link in the email to enroll in the course via Canvas Free for Teacher. If you do not receive your confirmation email within 12 hours, please reach out to the course coordinator, Meagan Rivers.
Note that Case Studies are reviewed on the basis on which they are received. This can take up to two weeks following submission. You only need to submit one case study to finish the course.
